Cannot process name change requests in DAMO

Technote Number: 1188923

Problem:
These DAMO releases, unlike the Notes Client, do not have a process for
creating and accepting a name change request.

Starting in DAMO 6.5.5, user name changes are processed much as they are in the
Notes Client. That is, after the Administrator initiates the name change
request using the Administration Process (AdminP), the "Initiate rename in
Domino Directory" request gets posted in admin4.nsf. Then, the next time the
user connects to the mail server, his ID file will get updated with the new
name. The Outlook profile on the workstation, however, will not be changed.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 6.5.5 MR fix list
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Client
SPR# MHOL62GGQV - Process a rename request from the server. In addition to
updating the ID file and the ACLs of the local mailfile, this will update the
notes.ini, the registry and the location doc.

Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading DAMO.

The process for performing a name change for a DAMO 6.5.1 - 6.5.4 user is as
follows:

1. When registering users the Administrator will want to save the user id out
to disk so that the Admin has access to a copy of it as well as the user. The
Admin can store a copy in the address book as well as save it to disk when
registering users.
2. The ID in the Person document in the Domino Directory would be for when the
user sets up the DAMO client; that ID is removed from the Person document and
copied to the DAMO directory on the user's hard drive.
3. When a user requests a common name change, the Admin person will process
that name change request in the Domino Administrator client.
4. Once that request has been added to the Admin4.nsf (Administration
Requests) database the Admin can issue a "Tell AdminP process all" on the
Domino Server console.
5. Then the Admin, using the Notes Client, can switch to that user's ID that
was saved to disk (by selecting File > Security > Switch ID from the Notes
Client menu).
6. Once the ID has been switched then the Admin should authenticate using the
user's ID. It is recommended that the Admin open the user's mail file via the
Notes Client.
7. Once that authentication happens then the Notes Client will update the
current user ID with the correct name.
8. After the authentication happens check the name on the ID (by selecting
File > Security > User Security from the Notes Client menu). This will produce
a password dialog box for the user to type in their password. The new name
will appear on the dialog box. They could also press the F5 key, which will
end the current user's session and force a login via the dialog box. Either
way, the name that appears in the login dialog box will be the new user name if
the authentication was successful. The correct name is now stored in the
physical ID.
9. The Admin should then replace the ID he/she has in their possession with
the one on the user's machine in the \Program Files\DominoForOutlook
directory. The user now has the ID with the correct name.
